CARPE DIEM

…She was as beautiful as a meadow in bloom, displaying a palette of colours and flowers. At an early age she learned to divine and had a special talent for guessing from her hand – her predictions always came true without fail. Bendigo was a young man, wandering the world with nothing but a guitar and straying into gardens. He sat under a tree, resting and lazily stroking the strings. The dulcet melody lured Elisabeth. She listened for a moment, then, without a word, bent down and took Bendigo’s palm in hers. Surprised, Bendigo stopped playing, looked up curiously and saw the lovely girl: a lock of unruly hair fell on her forehead and her face wore a look of concentration. She touched his skin with her slender fingers, examining every crease, every line in his palm. Then, quietly but with absolute certainty, she spoke. A happy future awaited him. Soon he would meet a lovely girl and fall in love with her. Bendigo was so pleased by her prediction that he picked up his guitar and struck up the sweet wood in a joyful melody. Carpe diem!, he cried. Elisabeth laughed and began to dance. The rays of the sun flashed through the treetops, the air was fragrant with the colours of summer, and the graceful curves of the beautiful fortune teller intoxicated Bendigo – what if it was she, Elisabeth, who would be his love…?
